Just thought you’d like to know that WUMD is a member of the Pacifica network. During the week we air “Democracy Now” and “Free Speech Radio News” at 11am and 6pm, respectively. That’s just two of the programs that are retrieved Monday through Friday with PODGrabber. ↓ Read the rest of this article…
Version 2.6 of OMT’s OnAir has a “not so great” Audio Library search feature. It only searches on the “sort” field, and only finds an exact match from the start of that field.
For example, if looking for something by the Beatles, the DJ could put the sort on “Artist” and type in “BEAT” and find nothing if the artist is in the system as “THE BEATLES”. The DJ is forced to try searching on “THE BEAT”.
DJs need an easier way to find music so a combination of an online search page and OMT export was born. ↓ Read the rest of this article…
OMTASL – Automatic Showlog Loading – Revisited
by lrhguy on April 22, 2011Back in December, we at WUMD started using OMTASL to keep the showlog area filled with the latest promos. (See the original article.) The program has worked well and reliably. I recently made a few changes to make it even better.
I’ve added the option to have it omit any promo that has been played within a certain number of hours, defaulting to 12, and to optionally remove any promo with the same genre as the current show. I’ve also added the option to force any cut from the database to show up at the bottom of the showlog. ↓ Read the rest of this article…
This is the first part of an article about some problems that you as a POD Caster should be aware of when trying to provide compatiblity for ‘automation’ of POD grabbing (downloading) your programs for broadcast by other stations.
At WUMD, we use PODGrabber to collect the podcasts which we air. With this tool you set a schedule and it goes and downloads the podcast, usually an mp3. It grabs any new files, and then calls an external program which inserts the new cut into the OMT On Air database, ready to be played as determined by the scheduled log.
When the podcast is listed correctly in the podcaster’s RSS file, this works great! The problem arises when there is more than one available file listed in the RSS. By this I mean, different products or versions of the same product. ↓ Read the rest of this article…
This is the second part of an article about some problems that you as a POD Caster should be aware of when trying to provide compatiblity for ‘automation’ of POD grabbing (downloading) for broadcast by other stations.
At WUMD, we use PODGrabber to collect the podcasts we air. PODGrabber has two URLs per podcast, the second being considered the ‘backup’ site. On the primary URL, you set the number of tries and the interval between tries. If the pod is not grabbed before the tries are exhausted, the secondary URL is used. PODGrabber uses the RSS fields to determine if a new pod is available. You can optionally set which fields to check, Title, PubDate or Guid. You can also set it to get only the newest item when detected, or all new items detected.
When there is only one feed URL, this works fabulously! A problem can arise when there is a backup feed site that is not co-ordinated with the primary. One of those three fields must be consistant across the two feeds. This is something that the poster of the podcast must manage. ↓ Read the rest of this article…
